The oil capacity of the 1.4 T-Jet engine is, especially in the case of the Abarth 500 / 595 / 695 with its tiny oil capacity of only 2,9 l, way to small for an up to 180 bhp strong high performance engine.
High performance engines produce a lot of in-engine heat and therefore high oil temperatures.
Usually engines with a high specific output have an increased oil volume (e.g. the classic Alfa Romeo inline 4-cylinder aspirated engines have an oil capacity of nearly seven litres).
Unfortunately many car manufacturers continue to reduce the filling volume of their newer engines in order to keep the servicing costs low.
A water-to-oil heat exchanger is intended to help to keep the 1.4 Tet engine's oil temperature at a sensible level, which under certain conditions is nevertheless not enough.
Especially if the engine is tuned or if the driver demands the full power on a hot summer day on the race track or a motorway without speed limits.
Over-heated oil ages very quickly and reduces the liftime of every engine.
An increased oil capacity reduces the oil temperature and allows the oil to safely lubricate the engine and most of all to ensure a sufficiently high oil pressure (oil loses these properties at very high temperatures).
This specially designed oil sump increases the filling volume by about 2 litres (0,53 US gal).
It is painted with red wrinkle paint and comes with a special magnetic oil drain plug.
A special anti-shaking bulkhead assures continious oil draught.
In addition to the drain plug this pan has a second plug which can be used to mount an oil temperature sender (thread M14 x 1,5).
The oil pan has 16 fins (about 1 cm in height) for even better cooling and comes with a special heat shield to protect the oil pan from being heated up from the exhaust which passes right under the oil pan.
The scope of delivery contains four longer bolts (the other bolts can be taken from the OE oil sump) and a special oil filler cap made of red annodized aluminium.
Sealing mastic which is necessary for the mounting of this oil sump is not included in the scope of delivery.
